⏳ Imminent

Scriptural Resonance: Revelation 22:12 — “Behold, I am coming soon.”

Definition: Something about to happen.

Theological Use: The book of Revelation refers to the 1st century generation to whom it was written. The Lord's judgment coming via the Roman armies in 70AD put a final end to the old covenant with the destruction of Jerusalem and the temple. See: Jesus WAS Coming Soon.

Pastoral Note: We all stand on the precipice of eternity and can pass on unexpectedly at any moment; such is the frailty of mortal flesh. But there is eternal life in Christ Jesus; and He shall come again, physically, to judge the living and the dead, to consummate the kingdom, after He has put an end to all rule and all authority and power. For He must reign till He has put all enemies under His feet (1 Cor. 15:24-25). While imminence may not apply to the 2nd coming, it reminds believers to live watchfully and faithfully.
